Mr. Best, Director
Mr. Best started his musical journey in Laurinburg, NC as a trumpet player in the Spring Hill Middle School Band (NC). Upon graduation, he attended East Carolina University, where he was a member of various performing ensembles, including the ECU Wind Ensemble (Euphonium), ECU Symphonic Band (Euphonium/Bass Trombone), ECU Marching Pirates (Baritone) and had the pleasure of performing with a ECU student brass quintet for Governor McCrory at the 300th celebration of Edenton, NC. Mr. Best graduated from East Carolina in 2014 with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education.
Mr. Best was the band teacher at Bessemer City Middle School in Bessemer City, NC from 2014-2017, where he was able to take a combination of the 7th/8th grade band to the Music Performance Adjudication where the group received a Superior rating in grade I/II. After three years of middle school teaching, Mr. Best was accepted with full scholarship to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW) as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the UW Band department while pursuing his Masters of Music in Wind Conducting with Professor Scott Teeple. He completed additional studies in orchestral conducting, trombone and euphonium. He currently teaches band at Crestdale Middle School and also is the Assistant Artistic Director of a local adult band in Charlotte, NC. Mr. Best is a member of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), National Band Association (NBA), North Carolina Music Educators Association (NCMEA), South Central District Bandmasters Association (SCDBA) and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
